Holy Child High School History
The year 1964 marked, the inception of the historical existence of Holy Child High School, founded by Rev. Fr. Cornelio Zabala. A person blessed with intellectual capacity, likewise, foresaw the dire need of Christian education among the youth of Villabanos, through the effort of Hon. Aurelio Veloso, together with Municipal Officials formulated a resolution addressed to the Archbishop of Palo, the Most Reverend Manuel Salvador to set up a Catholic School as an exigency to the growing needs of integral Christian education in Villaba.
Furthermore, financial resources upon its construction were the most essential factors. So, affluent civic-spirited people of Villaba assisted in the formulation by contributing its cash or in kind resources.
Mrs. Lourdes Burgos, the First principal, together with five lay teachers were employed in the school with a student's populace of less than 100. thereafter, the Daughters Charity were invited by the Archbishop to administer the school. Upon the principalship of Sr. Dolores E. San Miguel, DC, a directive was granted to Mrs. Beatriz Eamiguel as Principal upon the approval of the Director Msgr. Adan Apostol.
July 1, 1971 was the construction of the 1st Annex bldg. most of the financial resources were taken from the treasury of the Archdiocese of Palo, amounting to Php 35, 000. 00 including the tuition fee collection. The above-named building accommodated three classes.
In 1974, Msgr. Adan Apostol was appointed as Director of the school. He designated Ms. Leonora D. Rosal as Principal. The number of enrolment increased rigorously on account of the trust and confidence of the parents to the institution. The Parish Conference Hall was temporarily converted into a classroom to accommodate the 1st year classes. Other school facilities were actualized such as water system and playground.
In 1977, Fr. Ismael Hembra officially took over as the new Director. His directorship made transformations concerning the school's implementing policies and guidelines. Moreover, two buildings were constructed, the Library and the Principal's Office.
In June 1982, Rev. Fr. Oscar Lorenzo became the Director. His principle figured on behavioral and psychological clientage rather than school improvements. He was more on quality rather than quantity. Furthermore, Hoe sent off Mrs. Leonora D. Rosal, the Principal, to undergo a graduate course on School Management. Meanwhile, collaborative and reciprocal partnership of employees and administration manifested in the astounding results of the NCEE.
In October 1, 1998, Reb. Fr. Francisco D. Vicentillo succeeded as Director. His focus centered on the value orientation of every distinctive individual. He prioritized Faculty Development and the integral education among students. He sent off the teacher for seminars in various subject areas. He recognized the ideas of the employees in the planning and decision-making as far as the school improvement was concerned. His numerous, countless and immeasurable contributions were more far reaching yet worth emulating.
In August 1999, His Excellency, the Most Reverend Msgr. Pedro R. dean, STD. DD officially appointed Rt. Rev. Msgr. Wilfredo V. Alejan as the school Director. He was very much welcomed with open arms and kind hearted by the administration and faculty. His foremost and prime concern was the integral education of both the academic and spiritual dimensions. His ephemeral sojourn in the pervading atmosphere of this institution was highly meritorious, and yet his disappearance was quite nostalgic in everyone's heart because he was the primogenitor of probity, benignity and truthfulness.
Likewise, Mrs. Leonora D. Rosal bade farewell to the HCHS Administration and Faculty members for having served the institution for more than three decades. Her contributions to the administration were highly praiseworthy because she strode the school to its greatness. Its greatness traveled a thousand miles in different parts of the world and stood up from among the rest.
On June 1, 2003, the Religious Sisters of Mercy (RSM) took over as the new administrators upon the invitation of the Most Reverend Pedro R. Dean, DD. Sir. Mary Agnes B. Lumbay, RSM was designated as Directress/Principal. The Board of Trustees was organized and made functional. The Faculty Development Program encouraged more faculty and staff to attend in-service trainings in their field of specialization. Instructional facilities and equipment for Science Laboratory were purchased to meet the demands of the BEC Curriculum. Salaries and benefits of Faculty and Staff were upgraded. The BEC Curriculum is strengthened and fully implemented.
The physical plant development program included the extermination of termites, renovation and painting of the classrooms and the administration building.
The Parents Teachers Consultative Association has been a tremendous support in all the development program of the institution.
In its fourth decade of existence, Holy Child High School continues to commit itself to Christian education with emphasis on spiritual, academic excellence, community involvement and compassionate service as it earns confidence of the community it serves with the aim of producing quality students.
